Aurora are through to the PGL Masters Bucharest playoffs after a tight 2-1 win over Liquid. They are the third team to qualify, behind BETBOOM and FUT, who both went a perfect 3-0 in the Swiss stage.

How did Aurora beat Liquid?

Aurora and Liquid met on October 27 in a round-four decider for 2-1 teams, with a playoff spot for the winner. It went the distance. Per HLTV, Aurora took the opening Anubis 13-11. Liquid answered with a comeback from 4-10 down on Inferno to win it 13-11.

Cache decided it. Liquid led 10-8, but Aurora closed out 13-10. HLTV singled out Finnish AWPer Jimpphat, who saved two straight rounds late on Cache with patient play and sharp AWPing on the B site.

The numbers behind the win

Jimi "Jimpphat" Salo finished 52-39 with a 1.28 rating, the best on the server. He won a 1v2 clutch on Anubis and later anchored B on Cache when Aurora needed it most.

Özgür "woxic" Eker went 54-45 with a 1.00 rating, the same as Ali Haydar "Wicadia" Yalçın. Captain Ismailcan "XANTARES" Dörtkardeş had a quiet day at 0.86. For Liquid, Keith "NAF" Markovic led the way with a 1.17 rating.

Liquid are not out yet. They opened with a 2-1 win over MOUZ, lost 2-0 to FUT and swept Legacy. The loss drops them to 2-2, so they get one more shot at a playoff spot in the final Swiss round, where the loser goes home.

The veto went like this: Aurora removed Ancient, Liquid removed Dust2, Aurora picked Anubis and Liquid picked Inferno, leaving Cache as the decider.

Aurora started badly, losing their opener 2-1 to The MongolZ. They then swept G2 and Nemiga 2-0 before getting past Liquid to finish 3-1. HLTV notes this is their fourth playoff run in a row.
