PS VR2 has quietly disappeared from Sony's official PlayStation Direct stores in the US and Japan. Road to VR says the removal started in mid-October. Sony has not commented, but it looks like the headset is being wound down step by step.
PlayStation VR2 launched for PS5 in 2023. It impressed on a technical level, but game support stayed thin. Now you cannot buy it from Sony itself in its two biggest markets.

Which stores have dropped PS VR2?
In a November 3 report, Road to VR shared a timeline built from several store pages. It shows Sony began pulling PS VR2 from direct.playstation.com in mid-October. The headset's US and Japan product pages no longer load.
Push Square checked the US store for itself. There is still a PS VR2 heading, but under it you only find the controller charging station, the PC adapter and a third-party case. The headset itself is gone.
| Region | PS VR2 status (as of November 3) |
|---|---|
| US | Gone from PlayStation Direct; only accessories listed |
| Japan | Gone from PlayStation Direct |
| UK and EU | Still on sale via PlayStation Direct |
| Canada, Australia, New Zealand | Sony's site points to other retailers |
| Amazon US | Nearly out of stock; third-party listing at US$750 on Best Buy |
Things look similar at other retailers. On Amazon US, the headset and the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle have been going in and out of stock since early this year, and by November supply had almost flatlined. Best Buy and Walmart only show marked-up listings from third-party sellers, with Best Buy's at US$750.
Is Sony giving up on PS VR2?
Officially, we do not know yet. Sony has not announced the end of production or commented on the stock situation. Road to VR points to a rumour that Sony paused production in March 2024 and never restarted it. That has not been confirmed either.
There are plenty of signs, though. About a year after launch, Sony closed London Studio, the team behind VR game Blood & Truth. Firesprite, which made Horizon Call of the Mountain, also saw layoffs. In August 2024, the PC adapter let the headset play VR games on Steam, which freed it from being a PS5-only device.
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| February 22, 2023 | PS VR2 launched at US$549.99 |
| March 2024 | Production reportedly paused (never confirmed by Sony) |
| August 7, 2024 | PC adapter released, opening up Steam VR games |
| March 2025 | Price permanently cut to US$399.99 |
| Mid-October 2026 | US and Japan PlayStation Direct pages removed |

What does this mean for PS VR2 owners?
Nothing changes right away. Your headset keeps working, and so do your games. Digital Foundry warns that repairs and replacements could get harder as supplies run low. If you were thinking of buying one, finding it at the US$399.99 list price is getting tougher.
