God of War Laufey delayed to May 20, 2027

God of War Laufey delayed: Santa Monica Studio has pushed the PS5 exclusive from February 16, 2027 to May 20, 2027. That is a delay of roughly three months, announced on November 4.

The studio broke the news on social media, and PlayStation Blog quietly updated its pre-order post with the new date. Laufey puts Kratos aside and stars his wife Faye, so it is one of the more unusual entries in the series.

God of War Laufey delayed: what changed?

Only the date. Platform, editions and prices are untouched. Here are the key facts:

In its statement, Santa Monica thanked fans for the excitement since the June reveal. It said it does not take their trust for granted, which is why it chose the later date. The extra months will go into finishing touches and "pushing the game to its fullest potential".

Why does the new date make sense?

The studio did not name a specific problem. Still, the timing tells a story. Engadget points out that early 2027 is already packed with big releases, and Sony's own Until Dawn 2 lands on January 28.

May also gives PlayStation at least one major first-party game in the spring quarter. Sony usually ships its yearly MLB The Show in March, so Laufey now avoids crowding that window too.

What is God of War Laufey about?

You play as Faye, whose death just before God of War (2018) sets that game in motion. She wakes up in the Everywhen, an afterlife of the gods, and her story runs alongside the adventures of Kratos and Atreus. Deborah Ann Woll returns in the role.

Faye travels with two odd companions. Rue lives in the ribbons of her sword and joins her attacks, while Phranque is a talking cosmic cube. According to The Verge, the 23-minute gameplay reveal pointed to faster, more acrobatic combat than the recent games, with jumping and air combos.

PlayStation Blog also detailed her Serpent Bow. A full press of the aim trigger allows precise shots and volleys of up to five arrows, while a half press switches to a mobile hip-fire stance for close range.

Are pre-orders and editions affected?

No. Pre-orders remain open with the same content:

• Pre-order bonus: Last Wish Armor Set, Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance and an in-game resource pack
• Digital Deluxe Edition: Dark Alchemy Armor Set, Blade, Bow Scales and Catalyst, a resource pack, a digital mini artbook and the soundtrack
• Collector Box: light-up Faye statue, 51-card Oracle Deck and a physical mini artbook (game sold separately)

The Collector Box is made in limited numbers and sold only direct from PlayStation. It now ships on May 20, 2027 alongside the game.
