Worlds 2026 quarterfinal: Gen.G sweep LYON 3-0

This Worlds 2026 quarterfinal went exactly as many expected. The LCK's top seed swept North America's last team 3-0 in the quarterfinals and will now face Invictus Gaming for a place in the final.

The series was played at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas. Gen.G never let go of any of the three games, becoming the tournament's second semifinalist after IG.

How did the Worlds 2026 quarterfinal between Gen.G and LYON play out?

Here is the scoreline game by game:

Game 1 was a clinic. Gen.G finished 70.9K to 58K in gold, took 12 towers to 3 and both Barons. Kiin played Olaf, Canyon Qiyana, Chovy Galio, Ruler Jhin and Duro Leona. For LYON, Berserker's 5/3/1 Ezreal was the lone bright spot.

Game 2 was the quickest of the set. Gen.G closed it in 26 minutes and 32 seconds with a 22-6 kill score. ForFeit.GG's ratings named Kiin the series MVP.

Gen.G's road here was just as convincing. They beat IG and fellow LCK side Hanwha Life Esports in the Swiss Stage, then met LYON in Round 3. LYON took the opener that day, but Gen.G reverse-swept them 2-1 to join DK as the first two teams into the knockouts. This time LYON did not get a single game.

In Game 1, LYON went with Dhokla on Jax, Inspired on Lee Sin, Saint on Orianna and Isles on Nautilus. Gen.G took four dragons to LYON's one, and Ruler finished deathless at 3/0/7.

How did Chovy's Taliyah close out Game 3?

Inven Global's recap credits Chovy with the decisive plays. As soon as his Taliyah hit level 6, he used her ultimate to dive top and kill Dhokla's Gangplank. Kiin's Aurora was already ahead in CS, so Gen.G kept punishing the top side and also caught Inspired's Trundle when he came to help.

LYON did fight back. Berserker's Corki and Isles' Alistar picked off an isolated Ruler on Xayah, and after falling 3,000 gold behind at ten minutes, LYON won a four-kill fight that started on Taliyah. A clean Alistar engage before the third dragon earned them another big teamfight.

Gen.G answered by setting up early for dragon soul. Taliyah's wall split LYON in half, Gen.G secured the soul, then Baron and another drake. The gold lead passed 6,000 and an ace without losses in the mid lane ended the series.

What does the result mean for both teams?

• Gen.G locked in at least 3rd-4th place and US$400,000.
• Gen.G finished 3rd-4th in four of their last five Worlds and still chase a first final.
• LYON leave in 5th-8th with US$300,000, after never placing above 17th in four previous trips.
• The LCK is going for a fifth straight world title.

Reaching this stage was already a milestone for LYON. They beat Team Secret Whales and Karmine Corp in the Swiss Stage, lost to Gen.G and IG, then edged LOS 2-1 in a do-or-die match to make the knockouts for the first time.

What awaits Gen.G in the semifinals?

Next up is IG, who knocked out Top Esports 3-1 in the opening quarterfinal. It is a rematch: Gen.G also beat IG in Round 1 of the Swiss Stage. DK face BLG and T1 face KC in the remaining quarterfinals, and the final takes place on November 14 in Brooklyn, New York.
