The WoW: Forever launch went live worldwide on November 4. Blizzard's reimagined take on original Azeroth brings more than 1,000 new quests, the new Skyborne race and rulesets instead of classic realms, and it is included with a regular WoW subscription.
Servers opened at 3 p.m. PST (23:00 UTC, 11 p.m. GMT). Forever sits alongside modern WoW and Classic as a permanent third version, set after Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core.
What's new in the WoW: Forever launch?
Players are back on the original continents, levelling from 1 to 60. According to Blizzard, these are the headline additions:
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| New and reimagined zones | Mount Hyjal, Shen'dralas, the Riverglades and Zephras Isle |
| Quests | More than 1,000 new quests across levels 1-60 |
| New race | Skyborne (shen'dorei), Horde or Alliance |
| Dungeons | Nine new five-player dungeons for levels 13-60 |
| Raids | December 9: Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit, Onyxia's Lair |
| PvP | Darkspear Islands, a 15v15 battleground |
| Access | Included with a WoW subscription or Game Time |
The Riverglades alone hold over 150 quests covering roughly the mid-30s to mid-40s. Mount Hyjal picks up after Archimonde's defeat, with players helping a scarred land recover.

How do the Skyborne and new class combos work?
The Skyborne start on Zephras Isle, a level 1-12 experience with elemental, Skywall-inspired architecture. Horde-aligned Windshapers can become Shaman, while Alliance-aligned High-Order Skyborne can become Mages.
Old race and class limits have loosened too. Orc Mages, Troll Warlocks, Undead Paladins, Human Hunters, Gnome Priests and Dwarf Shamans are all on the table. Each new character can also use high-definition or the original standard-definition models.
On first login you pick an experience preset. Classic keeps a simpler interface, standard models and less hand-holding. Enhanced switches on HD models, quest markers, one-bag and transmog. Blizzard suggests Enhanced if you are unsure, and every setting can be changed later.
Rulesets replace realms
Forever drops the old realm list. Instead, you choose one of four rulesets: Normal, PvP, Roleplay or Roleplay PvP. Each works as a large shared ecosystem rather than a single server. A Hardcore ruleset with permanent death is coming after launch.

Without realms, names work differently as well: every character now has a two-part name that must be unique across the region. Other new systems include Camping, which turns a Basic Campfire into a shared camp with buffs, the account-wide Legacy System, and refined gamepad support.
How smooth was launch day?
GameSpot reports that players hit short login queues right at launch, and rulesets were greyed out for around 30 minutes. After that, things settled down with little lag. Starting zones were crowded but quests were still doable.
Some players on Reddit called it possibly the best Blizzard launch ever. The realmless setup seems to have avoided the hours-long queues seen at past Classic launches. Blizzard also gave every class a damage boost just before release.
