FC 27 Chip Shot: How to Do It and When to Use It

To hit an FC 27 chip shot, hold L1 and press Circle on PlayStation, or hold LB and press B on Xbox. From close range, one to two bars of power is enough. Only try it when the keeper has come off his line towards you.

EA's closed beta update adds that a dinked pass is done by double-tapping Through Pass (Triangle/Y) and aiming, and Ground Pass no longer triggers it. So use L1 + Circle / LB + B to chip the keeper, and double-tap Triangle/Y to dink the ball over the defence to a teammate.

How to create one-on-ones for a chip

The chip is a weapon for when you are alone with the keeper, and FC 27 gives you new ways to get there. EA's Gameplay Deep Dive says a Triggered Curved Run is a tap of L1 + R1 on PlayStation or LB + RB on Xbox, sending your forward on a curved run into the space behind a defender. The Red Bull guide with Tekkz and RedLac also says lofted through balls over the centre backs are very effective this year. Once your striker is through, chip if the keeper rushes out; if he stays home, a low driven shot is the better option.

Common mistakes

1. Too much power: the ball sails over the bar.
2. Chipping a keeper on his line: he steps back and collects it.
3. Rushing: FIFPlay advises staying composed; chipping before the keeper commits wastes it.
4. Chipping from distance: the ball hangs too long and defenders recover.
