We carried over what each base is meant to do from those articles and added no new measurements. Game updates may have changed building counts, so treat each picture as a placement idea rather than an exact copy.

How do you pick a Clash of Clans TH5 base layout?

Start with what you want from the village. Our older articles split bases by three goals:

• War: loot does not matter. The only goal is to lose as little of the base as possible and give up few stars, so the Town Hall sits in the center.
• Farming: in regular attacks the opponent is after your loot. Storages move to the center and the Town Hall can sit outside.
• Standard or hybrid: tries to protect both trophies and loot. Our older article notes that the attacker often takes 1 star and some trophies, but you keep most of your loot.

A reminder on trophies: if the attacker stays under 50% destruction and fails to take down the Town Hall, they get no star and you win trophies on defense.

Why do you need a new base at every level? As our older articles point out, the number of buildings and walls you have changes at every Town Hall level. A base made for the level below either leaves no room for your new buildings or wastes them, so when you reach Town Hall 5 it is best to rearrange the village around the buildings of this level.

How is the TH5 war base set up?

The Town Hall is the core of the defense. A Mortar right next to it meets ground troops early, and the Air Defense backs up the Town Hall. Archer Towers and Cannons cover the Town Hall from opposite corners, and the Wizard Tower sits next to the Gold Storages so it watches the loot too.

How does the TH5 farming base work?

In regular attacks the opponent is after your loot, so the Town Hall is moved outside. In the center, the Mortar, Air Defense and Wizard Tower surround the Gold and Elixir Storages. Cannons guard the collectors, and the Archer Towers cross the base to protect the storages in the corners.

How is the TH5 standard base set up?

If you care about both the Town Hall and your loot, this is the base for you. The Town Hall and storages share the center, backed by the Mortar and Wizard Tower. Cannons and traps wait for ground attacks, and the Archer Towers sit around the collectors.

How do you build the base from the picture?

Our earlier Town Hall 5 articles did not include in-game copy links, so you need to rebuild the base by hand from the picture:

1. Pick the base that matches your goal.
2. Move the Town Hall and storages to their spots in the picture first.
3. Place the defenses around them in the same order as the picture.
4. Draw the wall rings as shown and leave traps for last.
5. If you have more buildings than the picture shows, put the extras on the outer ring.
