If you are a serious console gamer but also have or want a Steam Deck for mobile games, you may be wondering whether the two can work together. How do you install PS Plus games on the Steam Deck? Let's take a look together!

How Do You Get PS Plus on the Steam Deck and Install PS Plus Games?

These steps will be much easier if you use a connected keyboard and mouse, but it is not strictly necessary. Here is where to start.

  • Boot up your Steam Deck. Once it is on, hold the Power button until a new menu opens and select Switch to Desktop Mode.
  • Once in Desktop Mode, look at the lower-left corner and select the Discover app, marked with an icon that looks like a shopping bag.
  • In the Discover app, use the search function and search for "ProtonUp-Qt." This is an app that helps manage software that would otherwise not be very compatible with the Steam Deck. When you find it, select the Install menu and choose Steam.

Then you need to select Add version and choose Proton-6.21-GE-2, which is currently the latest version. Now you are ready to select Install.

  • When ProtonUp-Qt has finished installing, you can exit the Discover app. Now it is time to get PS Plus. On your Steam Deck, visit this web page and choose the option to download the PlayStation Plus app. This should download an installer for PS Plus.
  • Now look for your recent downloads on your Steam Deck, find the PS Plus installer and right-click to select Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab, make sure it is enabled, and choose Proton-6.21-GE-2.

Now you can launch the installer and let it do its job. If you see the Run PlayStation Plus option after installation, always disable it, otherwise it will crash your Steam Deck.

  • Go to your Steam Library and look for the PS Plus app. Right now we have a situation similar to Game Pass, where we need to turn a similar app into PS Plus to make everything work properly. In this case, find PS Plus Installer and then right-click to select Properties.

Here, you can rename the app however you like (probably something like "PS Plus"), but you will also need to change the target. Find PSPlusLauncher.exe among the files the installer downloaded to your Steam Deck and select Copy file location. You can then paste the path into the Target section of Properties. Paste it again into the Start In section, but cut off the text "PSPlusLauncher.exe".

  • Now select your new PS Plus app to run it. If everything is working correctly (you may want to check the file path text in the Properties section carefully), the app will open and you will be able to select Sign In to enter your PlayStation Plus account details. Some users could not sign in at first, so try several times in a row to see if that happens. PS Plus should open eventually.
  • Again, your experience will vary depending on the games you play, and some of them are not very compatible with the Steam Deck (especially older-generation games). Many have found that if the PS Plus app needs an update, they have to reinstall it to apply the update, so be prepared for some odd situations for now.
