After years of patiently waiting, WhatsApp is finally offering an official way to move your conversations from an Android phone to an iPhone. So what happens when you want to move WhatsApp conversations from an Android phone to an iPhone?

How Do You Transfer WhatsApp Messages From Android to iPhone?

Download the Move to iOS App

The first thing you need to start transferring your WhatsApp conversations from an Android device to an iPhone is Apple's "Move to iOS" app. It's a free Android app that lets you transfer data from an Android phone to an iPhone, and it's the key to moving your WhatsApp chats.

• Open the Google Play Store on your Android phone.
• Tap the search bar at the top of the screen.
• Search for Move to iOS.
• Tap the app, then tap the green Install button to download it.

Set Up Your New iPhone

Now that you have the Move to iOS app on your Android phone, it's time to move on to your new iPhone. Before you start transferring your WhatsApp conversations, your iPhone needs to be at a specific point in the setup process.

• With your new iPhone on and showing the Hello screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen (or tap the Home button if your iPhone has one).
• Tap Set Up Manually.
• Choose a Wi-Fi network to connect to, and make sure it's the same one your Android phone is on.
• Tap Continue to set up Face ID, or Set Up Later to finish it later.
• On the Apps & Data screen, tap Move Data from Android.

Use Move to iOS to Transfer Your WhatsApp Data

With the Move to iOS app installed and your new iPhone at the right point, you can start transferring your data from your Android phone to your new iPhone. For this to work, make sure your Android phone is running Android 5.0 or later and your iPhone has iOS 15.5 or later. Both devices need to be side by side and connected to the same Wi-Fi network so they can communicate with each other. If all of that checks out, you're ready to begin.

• Open the Move to iOS app on your Android phone.
• Tap the Continue and Agree buttons.
• In the pop-up asking for location permission, tap While Using the App.
• Tap Continue and enter the one-time code displayed on your new iPhone.
• Connect to the temporary Wi-Fi network when prompted.
• On the Transfer Data page, select WhatsApp (plus any other data you want to transfer) and tap the blue Continue button.

From here, you'll follow the rest of the instructions in the Move to iOS app to complete the transfer and move all your data to your iPhone. This can take a few minutes depending on how much data is being moved, so don't be surprised if it takes a bit of time.

Once everything is finished and your iPhone is ready to use, all you have to do is download WhatsApp from the App Store and sign in with the same phone number. Just like that, all the conversations from your Android phone should appear on your iPhone exactly as they were.
