Aurelion Sol
The Aurelion Sol and Mage Spatula combination has been popular since Set 7's official release. Aurelion Sol's Black Hole is incredibly powerful and deals wide area-of-effect damage. Since Aurelion Sol is also an Astral unit, when deciding whether you want to commit to 6 Astrals, you can easily pivot to a three-star Nami or instead go for 5 or 7 Mages with the Astrals.
Ao Shin
Here's another dragon that deals an incredible amount of damage with his spells, so why not cast it twice? Running 4 Storm and 5 Mages with this Legendary dragon is fairly easy, which lets him reach his devastating carry position faster and makes that burst hit twice as hard. On top of that, Mage Ao Shin lets you bring Ornn into a Mage composition, giving it an extremely tanky front line that it desperately needs.
Varus
Varus is the only champion on this list who isn't a dragon and also isn't Legendary. Still, since Varus is an Astral, he gets the same benefit as Aurelion Sol; a three-star Nami is easy. On top of that, giving Varus a Guinsoo's Rageblade alongside the Mage Spatula lets his stun trigger much faster, which can shut down annoying backline carries.
