VCT Pacific roster moves are picking up speed. Gen.G have released three members, VARREL have parted ways with their entire roster, and DetonatioN FocusMe have cleared out everyone except captain SSeeS. All three moves were reported by VLR.gg on November 4.

The changes follow Riot's selection of partner teams for 2027. Teams that made the cut are rebuilding, while those left out are looking for a new path.

Why did Gen.G release Ash, Efina and peri?

Gen.G say all three have come to the end of their contracts. peri joined the coaching staff in December 2024, and Ash was promoted from Gen.G Global Academy in March 2025. That year Gen.G finished second in Stage 1 and reached the top six at Masters Toronto, but a 0-2 Stage 2 playoff run kept them out of Champions Paris.

The first half of 2026 was rough, so Gen.G signed Efina from X-CAST and promoted Raxcal from the academy in July. Efina arrived as in-game leader, having played for Vision Strikers and F4Q in 2020 and 2021. Gen.G went 5-0 in the Stage 2 group stage to earn a playoff bye, then went 0-2 again and ended their year. They were still picked as one of Korea's two partnered teams for 2027, alongside T1.

What happened to VARREL's roster?

Japanese organisation VARREL has released all six players, head coach TK9 and analyst R3THME. The club called the decision mutual. It comes a few weeks after Riot did not choose VARREL as a partner for the next phase of the VCT.

This was the former SLT Seongnam roster, which VARREL acquired after an unbeaten run at Pacific Ascension last year. The team finished 11th-12th in the first two phases before adding Foxy9. In Stage 2 they went 4-1, with wins over T1 and Paper Rex, to qualify directly for playoffs. They finished fourth there, just short of a spot at Champions Shanghai.

VARREL says it will stay in Valorant. The team is seeded in Korea's qualifiers for Pacific Kickoff, which VLR.gg reads as a sign that the club will shift its operations from Japan to Korea.

Only SSeeS remains at DetonatioN FocusMe

Less than two weeks ago, DFM let yatsuka and Caedye explore other options as restricted free agents. Now Meiy, Akame and three coaches are gone too, leaving SSeeS on his own. DFM never qualified for an international event in the partnership era. Earlier this year they came within two wins of Masters Santiago, and their partnership application was turned down.

DFM will stay in the VCT from outside the partnership system. It has a direct invite to the playoffs of the Pacific Kickoff Japan Qualifier, alongside QT DIG∞, which puts it in a good position to reach 2027's first stage of regional play in Bangkok.

What do the VCT Pacific roster moves mean for 2027?

The free agent pool just got deeper. Experienced Korean players such as Ash and Efina are now available, as are VARREL's Foxy9, Klaus and XuNa, with Foxy9 the key figure in the team's Stage 2 turnaround. Gen.G and T1, Korea's two partners, are both rebuilding, while non-partnered clubs will have to go through the Kickoff qualifiers. No new line-ups have been announced yet.
