FC 27 Penalties: How to Take and Save Them

FC 27 penalties work the way you'd expect: aim with the left stick and hold shoot to set power. In goal, slide along the line with the left stick and dive with the right stick. EA has not announced any change to the penalty system for FC 27.

Has the FC 27 penalty system changed?

EA's FC 27 Gameplay Deep Dive (29 July 2026) covers new run types, passing tweaks, manual defending, corners and off-balance dribbling. There is no section on penalties, so the core of a spot kick is still aim, power and shot type.

The bigger shift happened a year earlier. In FC 26, EA removed Timed Finishing from open play, and a second press of shoot now triggers a Low Driven shot. EA never spelled out how that affects penalties, so treat any "get a green-timed penalty" advice with caution; most of it dates back to FC 25 and earlier.

FC 27 also rebalanced PlayStyles. Finesse Shot outcomes now lean more on the player's attributes, and the Low Driven PlayStyle lost its shot speed boost. EA describes these changes for shooting in general, with no penalty-specific note.

How to take penalties in FC 27, step by step

1. Pick the right taker. The default taker steps up, but you can swap with R2 / RT. Look for high Penalties and Composure. FC 27 attribute guides describe Penalties as governing accuracy and consistency, with shot power, composure, input timing and placement also playing a part.
2. Decide your corner before the run-up. Changing your mind mid-run is how you end up rolling it at the keeper. The low corners are the hardest to save even when the keeper guesses right.
3. Aim smoothly. Push the left stick with control rather than slamming it to the edge. FC 27 guides note that a smaller aim circle around the ball means a more precise strike.
4. Don't overdo the power. Inside the box a controlled finish is more reliable than a full-power hit. More power means more pace, but also more chance of sending it over or wide.
5. Mix up your shot types. Standard shots to the same corner every time make you easy to read. A finesse (R1 / RB + shoot) and the occasional Panenka (L1 / LB + shoot) keep opponents guessing.

When is a Panenka worth it?

The chip works when you expect the keeper to commit early. Because the ball travels slowly, a keeper who stays put or reads it makes an easy save. Save it for an opponent you've already seen diving early; trying it on the first kick of a shootout is a pure gamble.

How to save penalties in FC 27

There's no guaranteed method; saving penalties is about reading your opponent and committing at the right moment. The controls are simple: shuffle along the line with the left stick, then push the right stick in a direction to dive.

• Don't dive too early. An early dive shows the taker the open corner. Wait until they are about to strike.
• Track tendencies. In a shootout, remember where your opponent has gone before. Human players often fall back on the same habit.
• Use the gestures. The face-button goalkeeper gestures exist to put the taker off, and they can matter on a big kick.
• Don't forget the middle. Staying put now and then against a Panenka fan gives you a chance and makes them think twice next time.

FC 27 introduced new keyboard layouts. Based on EA's official charts, the kick taker's inputs map like this:
