How did both teams get here?

Blitz data shows T1 lead the bracket with a 2.18 kill-to-death ratio. They take first blood and first tower in 80% of games each. Hotspawn adds that their results have not always looked as convincing as the scoreline, and that their opener against Movistar KOI was shaky.

Karmine Corp started the Swiss stage 1-2, then won their last four games without a loss. Strafe reminds readers that KC already took down the LPL's first seed.

The teams met twice this year. Hotspawn says KC beat T1 2-1 at the Esports World Cup to reach the grand final, and Strafe reports the same result. At MSI it was the opposite: KC lost to both T1 and Team Liquid and went out early.

Role by role: who decides the series?

RoleT1Karmine Corp
TopDoran: Ambessa 2-0, Jayce 1-1Canna: Rumble 1-2
JungleOner: Lee Sin 2-0, Vi 1-1Yike: Wukong 2-0, Pantheon 2-0
MidFaker: five champions in five gamesKyeahoo: Viktor 2-1, Cassiopeia 1-1
BotPeyz: Jhin 3-0Caliste: Kalista 1-1
SupportKeria: five champions in five gamesBusio: Lulu 2-0, Renata Glasc 1-1

Blitz notes that Jhin is 5-8 at Worlds overall, and three of those wins belong to Peyz. The champion's record does not describe Peyz's results.

Hotspawn calls the bot lane the key matchup: Peyz and Keria against Caliste and Busio. According to Hotspawn, Caliste had the highest damage per minute of the Swiss stage at 763.

What should you watch in the draft?

  • Blitz says KC ban Vi, Qiyana and Nocturne in 71% of games each.
  • T1 banned Cassiopeia in 80% of games, so Kyeahoo is likely to go back to Viktor.
  • Top lane is KC's biggest question: Canna has not played any champion twice besides Rumble.
  • Hotspawn says Canna can punish small mistakes from Doran.

Hotspawn says T1's solo lanes have not been as consistent as their bot lane this year. Doran, Oner and Faker have had uneven stretches, and Peyz has not reached his old dominant level. That is where KC hope to find an opening, and if they do, the series could be far closer than expected.

On the other hand, T1 are experienced at controlling the early game at Worlds. Blitz's first blood and first tower rates back that up. That is why KC's plan should be to get through the first fifteen minutes without falling behind.

What are the predictions?

Strafe expects T1 to win 3-1. Hotspawn also picks T1 but does not see a 3-0 and says the series could go the distance. These are predictions, not results.

Waiting for the winner is BLG. Bilibili Gaming got here after knocking out the favorite; see our DK vs BLG preview and the iG vs TES recap for the earlier rounds.
