How do you pick a Clash of Clans TH8 base layout?
Start with what you want from the village. Our older articles split bases by three goals:
- War: loot does not matter. The only goal is to lose as little of the base as possible and give up few stars, so the Town Hall sits in the center.
- Farming: in regular attacks the opponent is after your loot. Storages move to the center and the Town Hall can sit outside.
- Standard or hybrid: tries to protect both trophies and loot. Our older article notes that the attacker often takes 1 star and some trophies, but you keep most of your loot.
A reminder on trophies: if the attacker stays under 50% destruction and fails to take down the Town Hall, they get no star and you win trophies on defense.
Why do you need a new base at every level? As our older articles point out, the number of buildings and walls you have changes at every Town Hall level. A base made for the level below either leaves no room for your new buildings or wastes them, so when you reach Town Hall 8 it is best to rearrange the village around the buildings of this level.
How is the TH8 war base set up?
The Town Hall is dead center, with four Mortars and the storages in the cells around it. Air Defenses on the outer ring meet air attacks early. Cannons and Archer Towers form the front line on the outside, and Wizard Towers are spread across three corners.
How does the TH8 farming base work?
The Town Hall does not matter in this base, so it sits outside. Storages are in the center with the Dark Elixir Storage in the very middle. Wizard Towers around the storages slow down ground and air attacks, and Hidden Teslas strike when the attacker least expects it. Mortars ring the base, with Cannons and Archer Towers on the outside.
How is the TH8 standard base set up?
The Town Hall is in the center with the Dark Elixir Storage right beside it, and Mortars wrap around them. Air Defenses sit in the outer area, while Cannons and Archer Towers again hold the front line on the edge of the base.
Why does the TH8 honeycomb base work?
The honeycomb base from our 2021 article is wide and made of well-walled cells. Ground troops split up, while dragons come in at a wide angle and get stuck on outer buildings. Our older article specifically recommended the farming and honeycomb bases at Town Hall 8.
How do you build the base from the picture?
Our earlier Town Hall 8 articles did not include in-game copy links, so you need to rebuild the base by hand from the picture:
- Pick the base that matches your goal.
- Move the Town Hall and storages to their spots in the picture first.
- Place the defenses around them in the same order as the picture.
- Draw the wall rings as shown and leave traps for last.
- If you have more buildings than the picture shows, put the extras on the outer ring.
