Gen.G vs IG: Worlds 2026 semifinal preview tonight

Gen.G vs IG is tonight's first Worlds 2026 semifinal. LCK champions Gen.G face LPL surprise package Invictus Gaming in a best-of-five, with a spot in the grand final on the line.

As Sheep Esports points out in its preview, history is guaranteed either way. A Gen.G win would send the organisation to its first-ever Worlds grand final. An IG win would mean a second final for the Chinese side, which lifted the Summoner's Cup in 2018.

When and where is Gen.G vs IG?

The series takes place at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas, which hosts both semifinals on November 7 and 8. The broadcast runs on the official LoL Esports channels.

How did Gen.G reach the semifinals?

Gen.G have been the most consistent team at the event. They won every series in the Swiss Stage and swept LYON 3-0 in the quarterfinals. Their only dropped game of the tournament came against LYON in the Swiss Stage. We covered that quarterfinal in our Gen.G vs LYON report.

According to Sheep Esports, Gen.G have used 29 different champions across eight games. Mid laner Chovy and jungler Canyon have been the players who take over games from the mid game onwards.

What has IG's run looked like?

Invictus Gaming arrived as the LPL's fourth seed and were not widely tipped to go deep. They went 3-1 in the Swiss Stage and then beat Top Esports 3-1 in the quarterfinals, as covered in our IG vs TES story.

IG have played 35 champions across ten games, so they have shown little about their preferred drafts despite playing more. Their main weapon is early pressure, led by jungler Wei's aggressive pathing.

Have the two teams met at this Worlds?

Yes. Gen.G and IG played the opening match of the Swiss Stage as a single game. IG started well thanks to Wei's early impact, but Gen.G steadily took control and Chovy and Canyon closed out a comfortable win. The teams first met at the 2020 Mid-Season Cup, and Gen.G remain unbeaten against IG.

This time it is a best-of-five, which gives both sides room to adapt their drafts and game plans between games.

Which champions could matter?

LOLTV.gg's 90-day data shows each team's most-played picks:

• Gen.G: Ezreal, Ryze, Seraphine and Galio
• IG: Lulu, Jhin, Yunara and Naafiri
• Key mid lane matchup: Chovy vs Rookie

What will decide the series?

For Gen.G, the main test is surviving IG's early aggression. IG need to show they can hold up against Gen.G's disciplined, patient style. Gold leads at 15 minutes and Baron control could tip the series.

In the other semifinal, defending champions T1 take on Bilibili Gaming. Read how T1 got there in our T1 vs KC report.
