The November 6 update added Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean. It is the first major Steam patch in five years; the previous one shipped on July 15, 2021.

How did the NieR Automata 366 GB bug happen?

AUTOMATON reports that each of the game's eight DLC entries now shows a size close to the base game. Selecting them all pushes the total past 360 GB. That is a calculation error, not the size left on disk after install.

What is the temporary workaround?

The official NieR PR account (@NieR_JPN) apologized on X and posted the steps. In Steam, right-click the game → Properties → DLC. Uncheck every DLC. Download the base game. Then re-enable DLC one by one. That avoids the 366 GB gate.

With DLC unchecked, the base game downloads at a normal size.
Adding DLC afterward also works.
Console editions are not hit by this Steam bug.

Why do the DLC sizes look inflated?

AUTOMATON says each DLC entry now reports a size close to the base game. Selecting all eight pushes the total past 360 GB. That is why Steam asks for 366 GB when you grab everything at once. Installing in pieces breaks that bad total. When the fix lands, DLC entries should return to normal sizes.

What should players do?

Use the steps above while you wait for the fix. Do not free 366 GB of disk space based on the warning alone. Still leave some headroom; the patch may trigger another download when it lands.

The patch exists to add language support. It does not change the story or combat systems. The bug is a Steam storage calculation only. Console storefronts are not showing it. If you do not need the new languages right away, you can also pause updates in Steam until the fix ships.

Which platforms is NieR Automata on?

The game is on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Windows via Steam and the Microsoft Store. The 366 GB issue is tied to the Steam update only. Consoles are not showing the same storage math. We also have not seen the same warning called out for the Microsoft Store PC build.

After five quiet years, the language patch aims at wider Asian markets. A small content add-on turned into a large storefront bug. Square Enix sharing a workaround is the right move. Players with auto-updates enabled may still have cleared disk space for no reason.

Turning off automatic updates in Steam is also an option. If you do not need the language pack, delay the patch and wait for the official fix. If you already updated and hit the 366 GB wall, uncheck DLC and try again. For a support ticket, use Square Enix or Steam channels.

The community joked that 366 GB looks like a full AAA install. Technically it is mis-summed DLC sizes. That distinction matters: this is not a reason to wipe a drive, it is a reason to install in order.
