The Xbox PC app is getting a new look: Microsoft says the updated app launches up to 60% faster. The update is available to Xbox Insiders starting today.

According to the Xbox Wire announcement, the changes go beyond PC. The web and cloud gaming apps are being refreshed too.

What changes in the Xbox PC app?

Microsoft pitches the new app as faster and simpler. The focus is on finding games, reaching friends and jumping into play. Here are the changes at a glance.

Area	What Microsoft says is new
Launch speed	The app launches up to 60% faster
Page loading	Home, Store and Game Pass load up to 50% faster
Windows	In-app windows open up to 65% faster
Library	Simpler navigation, updated filters, new ways to organize
Friends	Moved into the main navigation
Search	Games, installed titles, add-ons and people in one place

Microsoft says these performance results come from its own testing and may vary by device, internet connection and system configuration.

How do the library, friends and search change?

The library is easier to browse. Filters are updated and there are new ways to organize games. Finding a title in your collection should be quicker.

Friends and social features are now part of the main navigation. It should be easier to see what friends are playing, start a chat or join a party.

Search is broader too. You can search games, installed titles, add-ons and people from one place. Game cards, Home, Settings and animations also got a refresh.

What is new on web and cloud gaming?

Microsoft previewed a refreshed web experience with Insiders earlier this year. Over the next few weeks it will roll out to more players automatically. To try it sooner, visit play.xbox.com.

A new Library tab collects every game you can play through the cloud, whether you own it or get it through Game Pass.
Desktop mode shows more games at once on larger screens.
Dark and light modes arrive, plus five new high-contrast options.
The refreshed look is also beginning to reach Xbox cloud gaming apps on supported TVs and VR headsets.

Another cloud update lets your phone act as a controller. We covered it in our Xbox Cloud Gaming phone controller story.

How do you join the Xbox Insider program?

Microsoft says to join, download the Xbox Insider Hub. It is available for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC. The program gives early access to new features.

For support, the Xbox Insider subreddit is recommended. Official Xbox staff, moderators and fellow Insiders help there. Microsoft suggests adding to existing threads before posting a new one.

Does Microsoft admit what is missing?

The post's author, Jason Beaumont, says players have told Microsoft where the experience could be better. The text includes the line "there's more to do." That shows the update is not a finished end point.

With performance claims like these, check where the numbers come from. Here they come from Microsoft's own testing. Real-world results will vary by PC power, internet speed and installed apps. Still, a shorter launch time could make a daily difference for PC Game Pass users.

What does this mean for players?

For now the update is limited to Insiders. Microsoft gives no date for a wider release, so do not expect everyone to see the speed-up right away.

The direction is still clear. Microsoft wants Xbox to feel more familiar across PC, web, TV and VR. It says it will keep adjusting based on feedback, and it points players to aka.ms/XBOXplayervoice.

If you use Game Pass, the update means the Store and Game Pass pages should load faster. For the games themselves, see our Game Pass November wave 1 and the list of games leaving.
