How Do You Buy a Card on Sorare?

To buy a player on Sorare, you can either bid on that player's newly minted NFT card in an auction, or buy it once a player lists it for sale. You can also make an offer for a player who hasn't been listed for sale, but in that case the other party has to accept your offer. If the person who listed the transfer set what you consider a reasonable price, all you need to do is hit "buy" on the sale listing.

Who Sets Player Prices on Sorare?

Both Sorare and the players who play it set this. Criteria like a player's similar performances over time, age, club, and playing time hint at roughly where a player's price should sit. When that player then comes up for auction, they usually stay in the auction for about 2-3 days, and Sorare players who want them compete against one another. When the auction ends, the Sorare player with the highest bid becomes the owner of that card. The auction usually ends somewhere close to the player's average price on SorareData. If you keep good track of things, you can sometimes buy a card that got overlooked in a different time zone for a much lower price than normal, but that isn't always possible. Afterward, the price of the player you bought rises or falls depending on their real-life performance and every other detail involved.

What Makes Player Prices on Sorare Fluctuate?

Player prices on Sorare can fluctuate for reasons like a player's current form, their performance for their club, transfer situations, an expiring contract, the league they play in about to start, or another player on their team being transferred and thus increasing their own playing time. I'll break these down in detail.

The Player's Form

If a player's real-life performance is good, you can rate it as follows;

• 50-60 normal
• 60-70 good
• 70-80 very good
• 80-100 legendary

Players who hold the card of someone performing well also score well in the tournaments they enter thanks to that player, which is why such cards are rarely listed for sale. A player whose card is rarely sold will naturally see their price rise as well.

Transfer Situations

When the player in question transfers to another club, expectations form around what they might achieve and the performance they might show at their new club, and their price rises accordingly.

For example, if a player performs at an average or above-average level in the Belgian League and then transfers to the Japanese League, they're expected to perform much better since the Japanese League is an easier league, which increases demand for them. As demand rises, so does the price.

An Expiring Contract

The player in question might not be getting much playing time at their current club, but their contract could be ending next year. You can buy and hold onto them, trusting their quality and hoping they'll perform well at whatever club they move to. Once they start playing at their new club next year, since they'll get far more playing time than before, their price will rise.

The League They Play In Is About to Start

Since Sorare includes different leagues from many different continents, the start and end times of each league differ. These differences are especially noticeable between Asia, Europe, and the Americas, due to the continental differences. (For example, the Japanese League starts in February, while the Russian league ends in April.) To give an example, when Asian leagues are about to start, demand for players from those leagues is higher. In the same way, prices for players in a league that's about to end will start to drop.

A Player on Their Team Being Transferred or Retiring

If you own the card of a player who's about to suddenly get their chance because the starting player ahead of them every week gets transferred, consider yourself lucky. From the moment that player starts getting minutes and performing well, you'll have the chance to sell for well above the price you paid.

You can also view this as a strategy and act on it accordingly. For example, you could pick up a newly transferred goalkeeper behind a veteran goalkeeper in their mid-to-late thirties and wait until they start getting minutes. Since the veteran goalkeeper will likely retire from the goal within a maximum of 1-2 years, your goalkeeper's price could multiply by 4 or even 5 from the moment they take over the starting spot.

What Should You Watch Out for When Transferring Players on Sorare?

Before transferring a player on Sorare, you should research their price carefully and follow that player closely. A detailed look at everything from their real life to how well they fit their team is one of the key details that will bring you success. If the player in question is happy and settled at their club, their performance will naturally improve as well. Being happy alone isn't enough — the player also needs quality, and their team's style of football needs to suit them. Many criteria come together to form an opinion and guide your purchase.

When transferring a player, it's important to analyze more than just their price or recent performances — everything from injuries they've had to where their coach plans to use them matters before you make the transfer.

Should You Transfer From an Auction or Buy From a Manager's Sale Listing on Sorare?

Both sides have their own advantages and disadvantages. Since auctions start from zero, you'll have a chance to buy at lower prices. But sometimes, a few managers can get into what you might call a bidding war and keep driving the price up, so an auction can end at a much higher price than normal. The opposite can also happen, with a card slipping through unnoticed and staying at a low price. If you buy from a manager's sale listing, the seller may keep the price high since they won't want to sell below what they paid and will want a bigger profit. Sometimes, though, a manager listing a sale badly needs the money and wants to offload it quickly, so they'll sell for less than normal — or you can trade a player you're not using and want to get rid of (Holoska plus some cash) and add a bit more money on top to get the player you want for less than normal.

In my opinion, an auction has always been the better option, but I have also transferred plenty of players through trades and negotiation. This isn't something that can be settled with a hard rule — it varies depending on the situation and the player you're transferring.
