When and where is Thief Remastered coming out?

The game arrives on December 3, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. On PC you can buy it on Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG. PS4 and Switch versions launch the same day, and it supports Xbox Play Anywhere. Switch owners can upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition for free.

Nightdive built the remaster on its KEX Engine. It includes the original Thief: The Dark Project plus the extra missions from 1999's Thief Gold. That means the 12 original missions and three Thief Gold missions, which also added five new enemy types.

Technical upgrades

  • Up to 4K resolution and 120 frames per second
  • Weapon and item wheel, rumble and gyro controls
  • Mission selector to replay any completed mission
  • Improved textures, models and animations
  • A Vault packed with behind-the-scenes material
  • Built-in support for custom campaigns and mods

What is The Tarnished Mirror?

The Tarnished Mirror is a new four-mission story campaign. It is set after Thief: The Dark Project and works as a bridge to Thief II: The Metal Age. After the Trickster's defeat, Garrett is back to small jobs. A simple theft of a Precursor hand-mirror then pulls him into a much larger conspiracy.

The press release says the story moves through imprisonment, uneasy alliances and a descent into a drowned necropolis. Lovecraftian horror is front and center. It also promises an expanded enemy roster and bigger, more ambitious maps.

The Black Parade team joins official canon

The campaign comes from the team behind Thief: The Black Parade, one of the most ambitious fan-made expansions in PC gaming. Nightdive and Eidos-Montréal are bringing a community creation directly into official canon, which is rare. The remaster will also work with player-made mods, including The Black Parade itself.
