Gen.G beat Invictus Gaming 3-0 in the Worlds 2026 semifinals to become the first team into the grand final. The Korean side cruised through two games in Allen, Texas, then came from behind to win a tense third. The final is on November 14 in New York.
The win carries real weight for Gen.G. It is the team's first Worlds final since it took the Gen.G name in 2018. As Strafe notes, Gen.G have not lost a series all tournament: they went 3-0 in the Swiss Stage, swept LYON 3-0 in the quarterfinals and repeated that score here.
How did Gen.G beat IG?
Gen.G took control early in Game 1. According to Chosunbiz's recap, Canyon picked off TheShy and Wei in the top lane, then caught Rookie in mid to open a lead. Ruler and Duro kept stacking kills in skirmishes. Gen.G took Baron around the 30-minute mark, pushed the gold gap to 11,000 and closed the game in 33 minutes. Ruler went 9/2/11 on Jhin as Gen.G won the kill count 29-9.
Game 2 was just as one-sided. IG went after the bot lane early and caught Duro, but a counter from Canyon and Ruler netted Gen.G three kills. Canyon played a deathless 5/0/15 on Lee Sin. Gen.G collected Baron and dragons, won a big teamfight around 27 minutes behind Chovy and Ruler, and walked into the base at 29 minutes.

Game 3 was the real fight. IG drew first blood at 11 minutes by taking down Kiin and Duro top, then won a three-kill skirmish bot at 16 minutes. Rookie went 11/2/5 and IG finished ahead on kills, 18-16. But around 30 minutes, a Canyon dragon steal and a Ruler triple kill flipped the game. Gen.G took Baron to erase the gold deficit, then won a mid-lane fight started by Duro's Nautilus at 39 minutes and ended it at 40.

What does this final mean for Ruler and Chovy?
Gen.G took over the roster lineage of Samsung Galaxy, who swept SK Telecom T1 3-0 to win Worlds 2017. Ruler was Finals MVP that year. Nine years later, he is one series away from the trophy again. Chovy, meanwhile, reaches his first Worlds final. Chosunbiz points out that every Gen.G player except Ruler is chasing a first world title.
Gen.G also won MSI this year. In 2024 and 2025 they fell in the semifinals, to T1 and KT Rolster respectively. This time they cleared the final four without dropping a game and now have a shot at an MSI and Worlds double in the same year.

When is the Worlds 2026 final?
Gen.G will learn their opponent on November 8, when T1 face Bilibili Gaming in the second semifinal at 2 PM PT / 11 PM CET. We covered T1's path in our T1 vs KC report.

The final is a best-of-five at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. IG, playing their first Worlds semifinal since 2019, finish in the top four after beating Top Esports 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
How did Worlds 2026 go for IG?
IG came in as the LPL's fourth seed and outperformed expectations. They lost to Gen.G in their first Swiss Stage match, recovered to reach the knockouts and knocked out Top Esports to make the final four. In the semifinal, their early game was the problem: Canyon's pressure left lanes exposed in the first two games, and while IG had a better plan in Game 3, Gen.G's experience showed in the fights after the dragon steal and Baron.
