Digital Foundry has published its Stellar Blade Switch 2 analysis, calling it a better than expected port. Environmental detail and lighting are cut back compared to PS5, but the game keeps its visual character, and the default mode targets 60fps with frame generation.

Stellar Blade Complete Edition launched on Switch 2 on November 5. As Nintendo Life reports, Digital Foundry describes it as no technical tour de force, but a "reasonable" and "playable experience" on Nintendo's console.

How does Stellar Blade Switch 2 perform?

According to the breakdown compiled by Nintendo Everything, the game uses FSR3 frame generation by default to take a 30fps input to 60fps. Exploration is usually better at holding 60fps for long stretches, while combat and cutscenes see dropped frames more often. Extended dips are not common, though.

ModeInternal resolutionFrame rate
Docked, frame gen onAbout 540p30 to 60fps (FSR3)
Docked, frame gen offAbout 648pAround 35-45fps
HandheldAbout 360pSimilar to docked
UpscalingDLSSMore stable than PS5

With frame generation switched off, the image looks basically identical. Docked internal resolution rises to around 648p and the game runs at roughly 35-45fps. Handheld mode renders at about 360p internally, with performance similar to docked. In handheld with frame generation off, VRR helps smooth out the frame rate.

What is cut compared to the PS5 version?

Digital Foundry found that the Switch 2 version strips back environmental detail compared to PS5, and pop-in is more noticeable. In some shots the cuts are hard to spot, but they are more aggressive in large-scale scenes, and lighting is also reduced. On the plus side, Switch 2 uses DLSS, which gives a more stable presentation than the PS5 version.

  • Release date: November 5, 2026 (00:00 KST/JST on November 6)

  • Content: NieR:Automata and NIKKE collaboration DLC included
  • Physical edition: Full game on the cartridge, no extra download
  • Default mode: 60fps target using FSR3 frame generation

Should you turn frame generation on?

Digital Foundry says frame generation is not a bad choice given the console's CPU and GPU limits, but argues a 40fps target option might have offered a better experience than 60fps output with frame generation. Players who switch it off get a game that hovers around the 40fps mark. Nintendo Life scored the game 7 out of 10 in its own review.

Overall the verdict is positive. Digital Foundry notes the game uses more conservative visual technology than many current-gen blockbusters, which made the move to Switch 2 easier. The losses are mostly iterative asset downgrades, many of which only really stand out in side-by-side comparisons.
