All Duelists in Valorant are designed to throw a punch. Instead of scouting enemy positions, setting traps or holding a particular site, Duelists should look for map control and ultimately kills. Using Raze's abilities, you can reach surprising spots on every map and take down enemies instantly. Although everything looks simple on the surface, her ability arsenal has more depth than the other Duelist Agents. Here is a detailed breakdown to help you climb to the top of the scoreboard!

What Are Valorant Raze's Abilities?

Raze's abilities were designed with an aggressive playstyle in mind. All of her abilities (including the Ultimate) are aimed at clearing areas without even needing a direct line of sight to the opponent. Let's take a brief look at these abilities. The descriptions are taken from the official Riot website.

  • C Ability – Boom Bot (300 Credits) — EQUIP a Boom Bot. FIRE to deploy; the bot moves forward in a straight line on the ground and bounces off walls. The Boom Bot locks on to any enemies in the cone in front of it and chases them. If it catches them, it explodes, dealing heavy damage.
  • Q Ability – Blast Pack (200 Credits) — INSTANTLY throw a Blast Pack that sticks to surfaces. RE-USE the ability after throwing to detonate the pack. It damages and displaces anything it hits. Raze takes no direct damage from this ability but can take fall damage if launched very high.
  • E Ability – Paint Shells (Free, recharges every 2 kills) — EQUIP a cluster grenade. FIRE to throw it. The damaging grenade creates sub-munitions, each of which damages everyone in its range.
  • X (Ultimate) Ability – Showstopper (8 points) — EQUIP a rocket launcher. FIRE to shoot a rocket that deals massive area damage to anything it touches.

The 'Showstopper' Ultimate is aptly named because it can shut down all enemy offense with a single click. Once the explosive is coming toward you, it is almost impossible to avoid. No matter how much armor you have, it won't mean anything if this six-point Ultimate connects anywhere close to your character.

That said, the most overlooked aspect of her ability kit is the ability to maneuver uniquely on any map with the Blast Packs. Although they can be used to deal small amounts of damage to the opponent, they are best used to launch yourself into tricky spots or to boost your momentum at certain angles.

How Do You Play Raze?

She is no different from the other Duelists: if you play too passively, Raze won't be very effective. Without vision-blocking abilities or blinding features, Raze shouldn't be the most aggressive flanker on a team. Without that kind of kit, winning 1v1s can be hard. Conversely, she also shouldn't sit in the background and let her team advance.

Abilities should largely be used to increase speed, and as you advance, new space should open up for your team. For example, placing a Boom Bot around a corner or in an unknown area can definitely help. But if Raze or another Agent moves together with this explosive drone, you can get far more value from the ability: enemies will have to deal with both the deadly robot and another player at the same time!

This kind of momentum can make opposing teams struggle. The same logic applies when using Blast Packs. Instead of throwing them for a little damage, Raze can drop them at her feet, or even on nearby walls, and use the explosion to reach new areas. Since you can't throw these explosives very far, pay attention to how short the throw distance is.

Enemy Agents may be holding a specific angle. Instead of wide-swinging, Raze can blast far beyond the expected fire and catch them off guard. Before they can readjust their aim, Raze may be in the best position to hit them.

That is how Raze is played, simply put. We've reached the end of today's guide. See you in the next guides..
