Imagine this. You're playing a FIFA match with your friend for dinner on the line. It's the 90th minute and you're going in for the goal, but your opponent slides in from behind and trips you. It's not a penalty, just a free kick. Your friend, who just stopped that clear scoring chance with nothing but a free kick, grins at you. Then you take the free kick, score the goal, win the dinner, and teach your friend a lesson they'll never forget! Wouldn't that be amazing? We know that a lot of players just throw away free kicks in FIFA 22 without much thought. But it doesn't have to be that way. Scoring From Free Kicks in FIFA 22

First off, you need to know that in FIFA 22's competitive world, where every position matters, you need to get something out of every position. In our previous articles, we covered corner tactics and how to score from open play. Next up is the free kick. When we step up to take a free kick, first we need to look at what situation the goal is in. There are 3 types of free kicks: close range, long range, and wide free kicks.

Close-Range Free Kick Scoring Tactics in FIFA 22

Normally you'd expect to aim for the far corner where the opposing keeper isn't. In fact, we see in many matches that opposing players move their keeper closer to the far post with R3 and defend that side. This even happens in a lot of esports matches. In this article, though, we'll explain the opposite of what's expected: hitting the near post instead of the far post.

For this free kick position, the player taking the shot needs high shot power and FKA (free kick accuracy). Curve matters much less here since we're taking a direct shot at close range. You don't even need to apply any curve to the ball! If the keeper moves away from goal, aim right at the near post, don't apply any curve to the ball, and take your shot with 3 bars of power! Turning on timed finishing will make it easier to shoot from further out.

If the opposing keeper doesn't move far enough toward the far post, as shown in the photo below, you can instead aim at the defender standing closest to the near post and use timed finishing to put the ball in the net.

Long-Range Free Kick Scoring Tactics in FIFA 22

Taking a Knuckleball Free Kick in FIFA 22

1. You need to pick a player with very high shot power, curve, and free kick accuracy. After all, this is a fairly difficult free kick.
2. Keep the shot bar between 3 and 3.5.
3. As the player approaches the ball, move the right stick down first, then up, then down again. Do all of this before the player strikes the ball.
4. If you've turned on timed finishing, press the shot button a second time right before your player strikes the ball.
