Is Sorare Trustworthy? A Look at the NFT Football Game
Sorare, the Ethereum-based NFT football game, is a trustworthy P2E project where every player card can be resold and rewards land in your wallet weekly.
- P2E games let players earn income while playing, but their trustworthiness is often questioned, including Sorare's.
- Sorare is an Ethereum-based NFT football simulation, and being built on ETH is a major reason it's considered a trustworthy investment.
- Player cards can always be resold, which the article says reduces investor concerns and adds to Sorare's trustworthiness.
Is Sorare Trustworthy?
With play-to-earn, or P2E, games growing more popular by the day, players have started not just playing games but also trying to earn income on the side. Every day we hear about a new game name and project. With that going on, people have started asking and questioning which game is worth investing in and how trustworthy it is.
Even though P2E and NFT-based crypto games don't necessarily require you to put in a lot of money when you first start playing, as you spend more time in the game and want to progress, making certain investments can become close to mandatory.
Since his name has been caught up in some recent incidents, I wanted to use an image of Pique, and yes, there's a bit of irony in that :) Contrary to what Pique has done and said, the game is in a very solid position when it comes to trustworthiness.
At a time when the country's situation and the exchange rate are both climbing, an investment made by someone abroad can be worth 15 times as much for us, which makes putting money into a game not exactly easy for people on an average income or below. And if the game you have invested in turns out to have problems and falls short of your expectations, the trouble that can follow gets a lot bigger.
Being able to trust NFT-based crypto games or P2E games, and investing in them, is a difficult decision that needs to be made carefully.
Today I'll be talking about Sorare, a game I have invested in myself and seen results from, and one I have written a number of articles about before, and about whether Sorare is trustworthy.
What Is Sorare?
Sorare is an NFT-based crypto game and football simulation founded by Nicolas Julia and Adrien Montfort. It was built around the idea of buying NFT cards of players from partnered clubs, with the players scored based on their real-life performance, and its popularity keeps growing by the day. You can find links to articles where we look at what kind of game Sorare is and answer many of the questions you might have, at the bottom of this article.
Is Sorare Trustworthy?
Getting to our main topic, unlike many crypto games, Sorare is very trustworthy and a solid project that can let you earn back the money you put in.
There's no such thing as your money getting stuck inside the game — once you connect the game to your MetaMask wallet, moving money from your wallet into the game or from the game back to MetaMask is very easy, and the only cost is the Gas Fee you pay. Since it's played on ETH, the one handicap is that ETH Gas Fees are high, along with the transaction fees you'll pay on deposits and withdrawals. Since the high transaction fee is entirely an Ethereum matter, there's nothing Sorare itself can do about it.
What Makes Sorare Trustworthy?
1) Because Sorare is built on Ethereum
Since Sorare has partnered with Ethereum, one of the most trusted cryptocurrencies in the world — some would even say the number one — there's no issue of the coin you earn in-game suddenly crashing or spiking in value. Of course there are still risks of ETH itself spiking or seeing a huge drop, but since that risk is far smaller than with any other coin, you can invest with real peace of mind. I started playing on July 24, 2021, when ETH was priced at $2,134.08. As I'm writing this, ETH is at $3,157.97, a difference of $1,023.89 between then and now. Setting aside whether the players I hold have gone up or down in price, just the rise in ETH itself from my first day to today is pure profit for me.
Given ETH's popularity and where it's headed, just being able to mine ETH and play on it is a great source of income on its own.
2) Because the NFT cards of the players you hold always sell
Another thing that might worry you is the player card you bought not selling and being stuck on your hands. This was a big question mark in my own head early on, and something I worried about too, but it's nothing you need to be concerned about. You might sell a player for less or more than what you paid for them. A footballer's market price can fluctuate based on their performance, transfer status, or injuries, and there's nothing you can do about that. If you want to offload a player quickly, checking their current sale price on SorareData and listing them close to that price will always find a buyer.
You can find out more about how selling a player works and what to watch out for by clicking this link.
3) Its growing popularity and the arrival of new projects
Sorare's popularity keeps growing day by day, and its user count keeps rising. As more football fans learn about and join Sorare, at this rate it could rank among the world's biggest crypto games, even in first place, within a year or two. As popularity rises, the number of teams rises, more teams means more footballers, and rising user numbers mean rising demand — which will push player prices up and make the players you hold more valuable.
Serena Williams recently joined Sorare and became one of its investors. Her arrival naturally raised the question: when is tennis coming? There's no answer to that yet, but it's clear other sports will be added down the line and the pool will keep expanding.
4) Because the value of past-season player cards doesn't drop
Every season, when new-season cards for players come out, the value of last season's players can dip a bit. The main reason is that new-season cards get a +5% season bonus and, combined with training bonuses, score higher. Even though old-season cards don't get that +5% season bonus, they earn XP bonuses when played regularly, so past a certain point that gap disappears anyway, and you can still sell your old-season player for a price close to the new-season cards. If you don't want to sell, since you earn an XP bonus after every match, your player's XP keeps rising, which gives you a chance to score extra points in matches.
Earning XP bonuses and training are a bit complicated topics... so I won't go into too much detail here, and I'll just leave the link to the article where I have written out all the details :)
What Budget Do You Need to Get Into Sorare?
If you want to play with the game's most popular cards, the red (rare) cards, a rough estimate puts the minimum investment at $3,000. That's mainly because goalkeeper prices are high, though it is possible to build a cheaper squad without buying a goalkeeper. If you'd rather play with the lower-quality yellow (limited) cards, a minimum of $500 will do the job.
I'll also leave a link here to ways of building a squad on a low budget: here!
Bottom line, what I'm trying to say is that you can trust Sorare and invest in it comfortably. The game's own internal rules are very clear and it doesn't bend them for anyone. The rewards or players you earn get added to your in-game wallet or squad as soon as the week ends. Of course there are always risks — you might set the wrong in-game strategy, transfer the wrong player, or something might happen to a player you bought — and you could end up losing money in the end. But when it comes to questioning the trustworthiness of the Sorare platform itself, there is absolutely nothing murky about it! Speaking from experience :)

How Can I Join Sorare With a Referral Code?
If you're going to join the game, I'd recommend joining with a referral code. If you join with a referral code, buying 5 cards from the game's ongoing New Card Auctions gets you +1 free player.
By clicking this link, you can join the game with a referral code, and once you buy your first 5 auction cards, you can earn +1 free card.
The game gives you a set window for this (it varies between 100 and 180 days), and it applies if you buy 5 players (of any card type) from the auction within that window. The time the game gives you is reasonable and generous enough to get this done.
What Are the Benefits of Joining Sorare With a Referral Code?
If you join without a referral code, you won't get the free card. Joining with a referral code has no downside at all — if anything, it's a benefit, since you get an extra player for free :)
