How does The Farmer Was Replaced work?

You never till the fields yourself. Instead, you write short programs in a simple, Python-like language and hit execute. Your drone then tills, plants, waters and harvests based on that code. Resources you collect unlock better technology.

There are no levels, just steady progression. Loops, variables, functions and lists are introduced one at a time. Tasks include merging pumpkins into one giant pumpkin, sorting cacti and hunting for treasure in a hedge maze. Experienced coders can race through the basics and move on to running several drones at once.

What is new in the mobile version?

Typing code on a phone is the hard part, so Ateo built a custom code keyboard. Every symbol sits on one screen. Brackets and quotes open in pairs. You can swipe across any key to move the cursor. If you prefer real keys, you can connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

What does The Miner Was Replaced DLC add?

The new DLC takes your drone underground. According to its Steam page, it adds eight new underground resources, including coal, quartz, mushrooms and dynamite. It also adds a whole new section to the unlock tree.

The new puzzles are solved with code too. You will dig up ancient ruins without damaging them, sort colorful mushrooms and play Minesweeper without blowing up your drone. The developer says you will also grow rice on clay.

The base game got a free update as well. The in-game documentation was rewritten, with interactive code examples that run directly inside the docs. Pocket Gamer adds that the update brings smarter autocomplete and new music.
