How to Play LoL Renata Glasc: Runes and Gameplay Guide

In this guide, we'll go over the best tips and tricks for playing LoL's newest Enchantress, Renata Glasc. You'll learn how to influence the battlefield and manipulate your opponents into blowing up their own Nexus.

Renata's release is only a few days away, but her kit has already shown she's an incredibly unique and powerful champion. Equipped with both revival and mind control, Renata raises the bar for every champion that comes after her.

How Do You Play LoL Renata Glasc?

Renata could be described as anything but a typical support, yet she still finds herself in the support role. She has an extremely unique kit with a lot more damage and crowd control than support champions usually carry. Keeping this in mind is essential to getting value out of the pick.

To start, Renata's kit encourages her to focus on enemies rather than allies. While champions like Lulu hang back and empower their allies, Renata likes to step up, pick out enemies, and let her passive deal a large amount of damage through her teammates. Doing this is difficult, though, since Renata has very few defensive tools, which makes staying up front dangerous. Good Renata players know exactly when they can step up and land a Q, or use their ultimate to lock down enemies without dying.

Since her abilities reward helping an ally focus down a target, Renata will be great at peeling. When an assassin dives in, Renata can lock them down, slow them, and shred them. Even if the carry dies, Renata can help trade the kill for the assassin, which then revives the carry.

During the laning phase, Renata wears the pants in bot lane. Because of her passive, her lane partner has to focus on whoever Renata picks out, or they'll miss out on a lot of value. Renata's Q will also be incredibly strong for displacing enemies in lane and throwing them onto your carry's abilities. Against diving champions, make sure to use your Q to pull them off your carry, and try to hit both your ally and the enemy with your E for maximum value.

Teamfights are when Renata turns into a monster. Armed with one of the strongest teamfight ultimates in the game, a good Renata player will close out games decisively when given the opportunity. Landing your ultimate without any setup is quite difficult, so you'll usually want to sit in the backline with your carries unless you find a good opportunity for your Q.

When the teamfight starts, try to catch as many enemies as possible in Renata's R, and make sure to use your E for maximum value once they're grouped up. If her Q is up, it's advantageous to use it on an enemy champion and throw them into their own team for massive damage and crowd control. This is quite easy once the enemies are mind-controlled, and it creates an incredibly powerful combination.

A lot of Renata's games will play out like a kind of pseudo-carry, similar to Senna. Because of her natural inclination toward dealing damage, she'll undoubtedly pick up kills. Just like Akshan and his revive, staying alive as Renata really matters, because you can only revive your team while you're alive. So dying is worse for you than for almost anyone else on your team.

What Runes Should You Use for LoL Renata?

Unlike other supports, Renata doesn't use much traditional healing or shielding. The only abilities she has to empower her allies are her E, a small shield, and her W, an attack speed and movement speed steroid. This makes itemization tricky, since support items are geared toward empowering allies, but it's also what sets Renata apart from other supports.

Renata will mostly build Imperial Mandate and then move into AP items like Rylai's Crystal Scepter, Horizon Focus, or Zhonya's Hourglass. Renata's passive and Q have really good scaling, so building damage on her isn't bad at all. Unfortunately, any item that boosts healing or shielding isn't as effective on Renata. Because of her E's AOE, she can probably skip empowering items like Ardent Censer or Staff of Flowing Water for her allies. Supports tend to have very low gold income, so building expensive damage items can feel really bad — luckily, items like Rylai's, Morello's, Zhonya's, and Banshee's are fairly cheap, so she has some good options if she can't build other items.

Because her abilities have extremely high impact, like reviving allies or displacing enemies, Renata gets a lot of value out of Ability Haste. She's quite likely to build items like Cosmic Drive or Staff of Flowing Water to keep her cooldowns low.

She's fairly flexible with runes, but tends to favor the Sorcery tree since she plays like a mage-type champion. For the keystone, Arcane Comet or Summon Aery is recommended, since Renata has long range and can easily poke. Manaflow Band, Transcendence, and Gathering Storm reward a more spell-focused playstyle, while Eyeball Collection and Cheap Shot from the Domination tree give her more burst/overall damage.

For secondary runes, she can take Domination or Sorcery depending on what her primary tree is, but if you want to be more supportive, Font of Life and Overgrowth from the Resolve tree are very effective.
