Udyr Rework Details: Everything We Know So Far

Udyr is a champion who has been in rework limbo far longer than most champions are designed to be. We can't deny it seems logical that this should be a good thing. Ironically, it took Udyr getting a good spot in the meta for Riot Games to announce that his rework was largely underway. This champion's dominance in the jungle wasn't just overwhelming, it was also extremely annoying. After all, there's a difference between staying out of sight and dying compared to Udyr running straight at you to kill you, and there's nothing you can do about it. Let's hope the rework doesn't push Udyr back into obscurity once the novelty wears off. Here's everything we know so far about the Udyr rework details you've all been eagerly waiting for!

What Do We Know About Udyr's Rework?

Udyr is a relatively unique entity in the world of League of Legends. He is part of a yet-unrevealed people who can communicate with the spirits of animals as well as the land, and channel their power for their own use.

But Udyr himself is an entirely different kind of monster. His incursions into the spirit world let him channel Ancient beings, such as the Freljord demigods, warping his spirit and driving him into a deadly rage the way Volibear's raw power and bloodlust do.

That's why Udyr spends his time training in ascetic methods with Lee Sin to master his impulses. He also fought alongside Lee Sin against Noxus when it invaded Ionia during their training.

Now he wanders the wilds of Freljord searching for answers, and by himself, or according to what Riot has revealed so far, that should be the essence of what his reworked lore will look like once the champion rework arrives.

What Will the Reworked Udyr Look Like?

It looks like, while working on the proportions and base design that had to be rebuilt from scratch, Riot unfortunately kept his horns, as seen in the image above. They genuinely liked the idea and pushed hard to keep them, but Riot couldn't manage to keep them from looking silly given how hunched over he is.

However, they haven't said anything yet about the visual impact his various stances will create now that they're inspired by the Freljord demigods. We can expect Udyr to be much flashier on the battlefield, with his abilities now more recognizable compared to how they currently are, and to resemble an aura.

What Will Udyr's Reworked Abilities Be?

The latest thing we've heard from the developers on this topic is that, compared to the simple design currently in use, his abilities will have an added effect when stances are applied:

• Passive - Awakening will now radiate spiritual energy around him with every switch between his four stances
• Bear Stance - Once Awakened, your next two basic attacks send chain lightning bolts to your primary target, then spread to nearby enemies courtesy of Volibear
• Phoenix Stance - As it was in the past, it will be ice-themed rather than fire-themed due to Anivia's influence. It will still have an area of effect, but besides dealing damage, it will likely also slow.

We have no idea what the remaining two stances might be. All we know is that they will most likely be tied to Freljord and the divine beasts that live there.
